Tenuta Poggio il Castellare
The high quality of the wines produced in the Montalcino area was already known at the time of the Etruscans, who, on these hills, had developed active settlements.
The name “Tenuta Poggio Il Castellare” given to the company brings us back to the historical roots of the place: to the finds of an ancient settlement with the remains of houses and towers on the top of homonymous hill.
In Tuscany there are places that can tell about ancient stories and characters. In San Gimignano, the Baroncini family as early as 1489 began to produce Vernaccia. Thus from father to son, 500 years have passed, and even today in Montalcino, Bruna and Stefano, sons of Ila and Jaures Baroncini, founder of the current company, produce wine as if to testify how time cannot scratch traditions.
The Vineyards
Tenuta Poggio Il Castellare has a total of 40 hectares of land: seven of which are dedicated to organic vineyards, two to truffle fields, the other three to woods rich in medicinal herbs, while the remainder is for arable land.
At Poggio Il Castellare the protection of biodiversity, an extraordinary and unique wealth of Montalcino, is at home. Our philosophy aims to safeguard the typicality of the main vineyard, enhancing its scents and aromas.
